CropsCROPS AND SOILS

Much of the cropland is a loam soil, capable of producing a large variety of crops. Most of the fields have been zero-tilled.

Crops have included:

  • Grasses: timothy, bromegrass, orchard grass
  • Legumes: clover, alfalfa
  • Grains: barley
  • Silage grains: oats and field peas

Fields are perimeter-fenced and cross-fenced for rotational grazing as well as cropland protection.

The ranch also holds a water licence for 200 acre-feet of irrigation from the Nechako River to cover 300 acres of river bottom, though most years this is not needed for hay/silage crops.
